A Message From Scott Tingley

Since January 2015, I have worked hard as your Salt Lake County Auditor, promoting accountability and transparency at all levels of Salt Lake County government. I understand how important it is to have an independent, elected auditor that answers directly to the people of Salt Lake County.

I chose to pursue a career in government auditing, and I am proud to be the first  professionally certified auditor (Certified Internal Auditor “CIA” and Certified Government Auditing Professional “CGAP”) to be elected as Salt Lake County Auditor.

With over 13 years of government auditing experience, you can be assured that I bring the right experience, education, and professional qualifications to the job. It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve you, the citizens of Salt Lake County in this important role in county government. Thank you for your support.

Scott Tingley, Salt Lake County Auditor

What have I done for you as your Salt Lake County Auditor? Some of my accomplishments over the last four years as your Salt Lake County Auditor include:

  • I have expanded the Auditor’s audit capabilities to include performance (operational) audits, financial and compliance audits, capital project audits, key controls audits, and IT audits. I have overseen and managed dozens of different types of audits and investigations in a wide variety of county departments, divisions, and programs. This means better oversight and accountability for your tax dollars, and ensuring that county departments and programs are accomplishing their objectives in the most cost effective and efficient way possible.
  • I have implemented a technology-driven continuous auditing program of county purchasing card (p-card) transactions. With this technology, we are able to audit 100% of county p-card transactions for compliance with county p-card policies, and detect potential fraud, waste, or abuse in real-time. To-date we have audited more than 35,000 county p-card transactions, totaling more than $11,290,000. We have identified and re-mediated more than 2,700 issues throughout the county, and ensured that county financial resources are properly safeguarded.
  • I have developed and promoted the eNotices Program (electronic property tax notices) with the County Treasurer, so that Salt Lake County property owners can receive their important property tax notices by email. This program is saving taxpayers thousands of dollars each year in printing and postage costs.
  • I have used fiscal discipline and responsibility to cut our expenses and annual costs in the Auditor’s office. This has saved taxpayers money and resulted in returning hundreds of thousands of dollars back to the County over the last four years.
