Professional Experience


Salt Lake County Auditor (Elected Official), 2015 – Present

As your elected County Auditor, Scott is an independent elected official with authority, duties, and responsibilities outlined in Utah Code and Utah state law. Since he is elected by the people of Salt Lake County, he is directly accountable to the public and truly independent in conducting the business of the County Auditor on behalf of the citizens. The County Auditor provides independent analysis of county programs and organizations through performance and financial audits. Decision-makers use this information to make better decisions and audits help to ensure public accountability and transparency. The County Auditor also serves as the Clerk of the County Board of Equalization, oversees the annual certification of property tax rates for all taxing entities within the county, and administrates the property tax assessment appeals process.

Personal Property Audit Supervisor, 2013 – 2015

Scott supervised the Business Personal Property Audit team within the Salt Lake County Assessor’s Office. His team was responsible for conducting audits of business personal property tax filings throughout Salt Lake County.

Scott conducted audits of business personal property tax filings throughout Salt Lake County. These audits ensured that businesses complied with state personal property tax laws, and that their annual filings were accurate and complete.

Internal Auditor, 2008 – 2012

Salt Lake County Auditor’s Office

Scott worked as an Internal Auditor within the Salt Lake County Auditor’s Internal Audit Division. He was involved in the planning, fieldwork, reporting, and follow-up stages of many different types of audit projects in a wide variety of Salt Lake County departments, divisions, and programs. He was also the lead auditor in several fraud investigations. He had the opportunity to work directly with law enforcement, the FBI, the US Attorney’s Office, and the District Attorney’s Office, investigating cases involving County employees accused of fraud and misappropriation of public funds.

Hyland Floral Company

Scott and his wife owned and operated Hyland Floral after the former owners retired. He was involved in managing the day-to-day operations and handled all the accounting, tax, and payroll functions for the store.
